DRAWING
'BUTTERFLY NEBULA'
GRAPHITE ON PAPER
45" X 55" INCHES
August 2009

THIS WORK FORMS THE CENTRE PANEL OF THE 'BUTTERFLY NEBULA' TRIPTYCH. IT WAS INSPIRED BY A CONVERGENCE OF IMPULSES THAT HAPPENED WHEN THE HUBBLE TELESCOPE BEAMED BACK TO EARTH IMAGES THAT SHOWED A NEW GALAXY SHAPED LIKE THAT OF A BUTTERFLY. AT THE SAME TIME I HAD VISITED A BUTTERFLY DISPLAY AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM IN LONDON. THE COINCIDENCE OF EXPERIENCING THESE PHENOMENA, LEAD TO A BODY OF CELESTIAL FIGURES THAT EXPRESSES THE DYNAMISM AND FORCE OF REVELATIONS MANIFESTED BY THE MEDIA OF GRAPHITE AND THE PRIMAL URGE TO FUSE THE ENERGY I FELT, THAT WAS BEING CHANNELED THROUGH MY PERCEPTIONS AS A CREATIVE BEING AT THE TIME OF CREATION.
