'WATERFRONT' (BERKOFF)
GRAPHITE ON PAPER
33" X 45" INCHES
2009

THIS DRAWING REPRESENTS A VISUAL RESPONSE TO STEVEN BERKOFF'S THEATRICAL ADAPTATION OF BUD SCHULBERG'S CLASSIC, 'ON THE WATERFRONT'. INSPIRED BY THE DYNAMIC 'NOIR' OF THE PRODUCTION, GRAPHITE WAS USED AS A MEDIUM TO CAPTURE THE DRAMATIC INTENSITY OF THE PLAY, WHICH IS GIVEN FULL EXPRESSION.

‘Nazim Nazim has a unique talent in getting to the core of the subject. He uses very bold strokes which express the power of ‘On The Waterfront’ and the image captures perfectly the nature of the story. It is a most unusual style and deliberately thwarts conventional reproduction. In fact the image almost seems to move in front of you. A man to watch.’ Steven Berkoff
